General Description
Ringworm of the groin (tinea cruris) is often found in men, especially in the summer months. The incidence in females is on the rise, with skintight slacks and panty hose being contributing factors. Conditions that predispose people to tinea cruris are moisture retention, heat, friction, and obesity. A red, itchy rash in the groin area characterizes jock itch.
Causes
A variety of fungi cause jock itch.
Medical Treatments
Avoidance of tight, restrictive underclothing aids in the prevention and treatment of this annoying disorder. Drying powders that soak up excess moisture are also helpful. Cure may be obtained with antifungal creams, although reoccurrence is common.
